Autodesk Construction Cloud: Beyond Revit Worksharing - Replay

On this episode of BIM After Dark Live (Autodesk Construction Cloud: Beyond Revit Worksharing) I welcome back Scott Davis to expand on Autodesk Construction Cloud ("ACC").  Many of you know of the term (or know of "BIM360") and use it for Revit Cloud Worksharing... As great as the Revit Cloud Worksharing is (and it is great), you may not know about all of the other incredible features ACC has to offer... We will dig into how you can take full advantage of the tool you are paying quite a bit of money for... and take live questions along the way..

Some of the things we plan to touch on include:

Insight - Power BI templates

Markups in issues

Bridge

Sheet Collections

Locations - Import From Revit

Correspondence

Download PDFs from Build

...and more!

My Residential Revit Template: An Exclusive Look Inside - Replay

On this episode of BIM After Dark Live I walked through my Revit template for custom residential architecture.

So many of the Revit template examples and downloads available are focused on larger commercial projects. I wanted to create a streamlined, minimal, and effective template that was optimized for small-scale residential design and construction. This template will give you everything you need to quickly create a model and set of construction documents for your 400 square foot home additions... not your 4 million square foot hospitals!

Click here to watch the replay as I take your questions and walk through my approach to such a template...

Interested in Downloading the Template?

This template is exclusively available to members of the BIM After Dark Community.

Key Features:

Text notes, dimensions, schedules, line styles, and more that all look graphically compelling right out of the  box.

ONLY the view templates, line styles, detail components, families, wall types, and just the content you NEED to start your single family residential projects in Revit.

Minimalist, "retro" style titleblocks and cover sheets built in.

Schedules, key schedules, note blocks (with annotation families), and more to help you quickly generate your construction documents.

A fully comprehensive sample project of a 400 SF addition with all views, sheets, details, and information included!

A project browser that is simple to use and organize (as well as customize!).

Graphic display settings for your 3D and 2D views that will improve the quality and comprehension of all of your Revit views.

.... and more....

Automatic Construction Documents in Revit (w/ Miguel of EvolveLab) - Replay

Seriously... Get ready to have your mind blown. Imagine having a tool that will automatically generate your interior elevations (of all our rooms), place them on sheets, and then dimension them... Or, imagine you had a tool that elevated all of your desired curtain walls, placed them on sheets, tagged them, and dimensioned them....

Well, Miguel Bardaji joined us on last nights episode of BIM After Dark Live and did exactly that....

I still can't believe we hit the episode 100 milestone for BIM After Dark Live... Who would have thought a livestreamed happy hour about BIM would turn into what it has... Thank you ALL for following along the last three years, commenting, chatting, and being a part of this journey.

On last night's episode I did a quick overview of my favorite new features of Revit 2024 and demonstrated some of the possibilities they give us!

Award Winning Revit with Lake|Flato Architects - Replay

Have you ever wondered how an award-winning architecture firm like Lake|Flato Architects uses Revit for their projects? In this episode of BIM After Dark Live, I was joined by a friend of the show, Daniel Stine, to discuss how the Lake|Flato team uses Revit and technology to design and build their incredible homes. Do Architects still Draw by Hand? (Interview with Eric from 30x40) - Replay

Yesterday's episode of BIM After Dark Live did not disappoint!  Eric Reinholdt (from 30x40 Design Workshop) joined me and we had a great conversation about architectural practice, technology, education, and more...

You'll get to hear how Eric started 30x40 Workshop, why he still loves building physical models, how he monetizes his practice (beyond just architectural services), and more...

As BIM and technology enthusiasts, it's easy to focus on digital tools and forget about the art of being an architect. Eric has done an amazing job of using technology to streamline his process while still valuing analog tools, such as hand drawing and physical model making.  I'm sure you'll be just as interested as I am to delve into Eric's processes, tools, and ethos…

Electrical Plans in Revit (for Architects) - Replay

To wire, or not to wire... That is the question....

No, it's not... YOU SHOULD ALWAYS WIRE!

Brenton Wiberg, of RevitFamily.biz, joined me on last night's episode of BIM After Dark Live to talk about making electrical lighting and power plans in Revit (from and Architect's perspective).  Brenton went through 3 methods of approaching these plans and talked about the pros and cons of each...

This is one episode that I think EVERYONE will take a little something away from...

Be sure to check out the replay here...

Archicad vs. Revit (The BIM Battle ROYALE!!) - Replay

Well.... that was fun...

What do you get when a Revit expert and an Archicad expert walk into a bar?  This awesome conversation!

On last night's episode of BIM After Dark Live I was joined by Jared Banks of Shoegnome Architects to talk about little BIM vs. big BIM, architectural practice, and Archicad vs. Revit.

I think we've decided to have a part 2 in which we side by side model stuff in Revit and Archicad and explore the differences and similarities of how each program gets the job done!  Stay tuned for that!

When an Architect Designs and Builds His Home Office - Replay

On last night's episode of BIM After Dark Live I ran through the tools, processes, and lessons learned from my experience as both the Architect and General Contractor while designing and building the BIM After Dark studio home office.  If you're using Autodesk Revit as a residential architect or wondering how this "BIM thing" could actually help as a small scale residential contractor this episode is for you!  Plus, the story contains an interesting storyline with an unexpected deadline.

I covered:

- Revit Model and Permit Drawing Setup

- Estimating and Financing the Build

- Scheduling Tool I used

- Walked through each stage of construction and pointed out lessons learned and areas where Revit came in handy throughout.

- Whether I did or did not meet the looming deadline....

How to Build a Computer for Architects - Replay

On this episode of BIM After Dark Live I will be joined by Anthony Remis (of Remis Computer Solutions) to talk about how to build a computer for architects. We will break down the most recent and relevant information on what processors, graphics cards, RAM, hard drives, and more will be best suited for handling all of our CRAZY demands as architects and engineers. From Autodesk Revit to Twinmotion to Navisworks, we require an array of different specs to complete our projects...  Anthony will help us prioritize our specs for both laptops and desktops to helps us build the ultimate PC for what we do...

Anthony ended with a great tip on what to look for when picking a laptop as well!
